The GNTLA was started in 1994 by a group of longhorn enthusiasts who wanted to spread the word about the great Texas Longhorn breed. We have a few meetings a year, traveling to different ranches, and stay connected through email and printed mail the rest of the year.
Through volunteer efforts, the GNTLA has had a booth at horse fairs and other farm related events. Many members also try to promote the breed by bringing animals to fairs. In the early 2000s, the membership had done a private treaty "Fall Round Up" that included branding, castrating, and ranch demos. This was the base for the Great Northern Longhorn Classic and Cheesehead Futurity that has been ongoing since 2017 and keeps growing. Every year, the sale brings more new members to our Association, and many are first-time longhorn buyers. Please reach out to any of our members in your area and they would be happy to answer any questions.
